What Is Irregular Bleeding?

A “typical” menstrual cycle varies from person to person.

Most cycles occur about every 21–35 days and bleeding usually lasts 3–8 days.

Irregular bleeding can include:

  • Periods that come more or less often than usual
  • Bleeding or spotting between periods
  • Bleeding after sex
  • Bleeding after menopause
  • Very heavy or very light periods
  • Periods that last much longer than usual
